Uses of Copper

Copper is not a recently discovered marvel of technology.  For thousands of years, man has use this kind of metal, mined out of the earth and turned it into something useable so that they could be of help to the ancient humans. The ancient man learned the first uses of copper and now, even more ways to utilize it are realized and discovered and are being applied to different aspects of society. One notable and significant new applications of copper are in hospitals where their efficiency made a name for itself. Copper is a very versatile metal. It is reddish in color and has many unique properties that make it different from other known metals. • High Conductivity - It has super conductivity properties, the ability to let heat or electricity to run through it without any problem.
• Recyclability - This is the one thing that environmentalists love about coppers, they are totally recyclable so you will never see a wasted one or you will never see it thrown away and be added up to the waste that kills the environment. You could use it again for other purposes since its properties never changes.
• Corrosion Resistant - It will not corrode like steel or other metals, no rust can affect it. That is why it is perfect for objects that need heavy duty performance.

Because of these properties, the uses of copper have also been extended inside the hospitals where it is very important for materials to be sterile and infection is a number one problem. Matter of fact, 2 million people gets infected every year and in the United States alone, it is the number four killing machine. If you add it all up, it is more than the amount of people who die of cancer and HIV. The common solution to this is to sanitize and wash their hands frequently and surfaces are cleaned with anti – bacterial chemicals to maintain the cleanliness and to make sure that everything is bacteria – free. But recent discoveries have proven that copper is not a friendly thing for microbes, micro organisms that are the number one distributor of diseases, cannot survive contact with copper. That’s why that’s another one added to the uses of copper and hospitals have begun replacing steel and plastic with copper and that includes counter tops, touch plates, faucets and taps.
